July in Åre
July equals summer and holidays. We hope to see the sun shining from a blue sky, contrasting the greenery that covers all of Åre this time of year. Regardless of the weather, Åre will offer cool and relaxing days and the only thing you need to do is find your own pace, and maybe go through some of our tips for July in Åre!
Air Your Boots & Legs
Åre offers hiking in all shapes and forms for both young and old, and for every level of ambition. Climb Åreskutan, take the lift up and walk down – or take the lift both ways. Your energy, ability, and mood decide the project of the day or weekend. Start from one of the trail centres and find your route to your favourite peak, in and around Åre. In the digital trail guide Åre Trails, you’ll find information on which trails are open, where they start and finish, and how to get there. Remember: you’ll never regret going for a hike.

Get Wet & Warm Up
Swim and paddle your way through Åre’s stunning lakes, streams, and rivers. There’s no shortage of bathing spots in and around Åre village — whether you prefer a cosy indoor dip or the wide open spaces of nature. Ride the rapids in a raft, kayak, or ducky, or discover hidden gems by kayak, canoe, or SUP. Hike to a secluded beach and let nature do the rest. And if you like, why not combine the cool water with the comforting heat of one of Åre’s many bookable saunas?

Slow Down and Savour It
Everyone loves to talk about everything they’ve packed into their holidays — and Åre is bursting with activities for every mood, every forecast. But let’s not forget: holidays are also made for recharging. So give yourself permission to slow down. Where will you find your perfect resting place? Perhaps it’s a hotel bed with crisp, fresh sheets. Or maybe it’s a mossy log deep in the forest, or a sun-warmed rock high up in the mountains. Wherever you pause, take your time. Breathe. Stretch out. Let the view fill your senses.
And when you’re ready, you’ll find plenty of slow-paced pleasures waiting right here.
Get Involved!
July is the busiest month of the year for events, with plenty of opportunities to get your body moving — from running and golf to cycling and triathlon. But there are also more relaxed events on the calendar, such as Music Evenings by Lake Åresjön and Västgård Game Fair. Take part and give it your all, cheer from the sidelines, or simply stroll around and enjoy the music and lively atmosphere. And if you’d like to be in the middle of the action without competing or spectating, why not join in as a volunteer — it’s great fun!
You’ll find all of July’s events here.
Welcome aboard!
On the northern side of Åreskutan lies the beautiful Lake Kallsjön and a floating gem named M/S Drottning Sophia (M/S Queen Sophia). Long retired from her timber-hauling days during the golden era of log driving, she was spared a life as a summer cottage in Stockholm (!) and has since the 1990s returned to her home port. During the summer, she sails between Kall, Huså, Bonäshamn, and Västgård, with Åreskutan and the Skäckerfjällen mountains providing a stunning backdrop.

Book an Activity
Adventure and new experiences — along with the memories they create — are what summer is all about. Test your grip strength with a beginner’s climbing course or learn how to handle white water in a kayak. Take the family on a rafting trip or challenge each other to a game of bubble football. Practise yoga in the mountains or join a painting course. If you don’t feel like heading out to Åre Bike Park or the mountains on your own, book a guided tour. The options are nearly endless. Explore What “Åre” Really Means
“Åre” is a broad concept. It can refer to Åre village, but also to the Åredalen valley, or even the entire Åre municipality. As it should be, the boundaries are fluid — and the further you stretch them, the more there is to discover. Head out to Duved and combine your visit with a hike or a fishing trip. Explore the landscapes of Edsåsdalen, Trillevallen, and Vålådalen, and take the opportunity to enjoy lunch or dinner at one of the local restaurants. Go for a swim in Lake Ottsjön or Lake Hensjön. And keep your eyes open along the way — you might just stumble upon a cosy café, a ceramic studio, a quirky shop, or a flea market.

Hook, Line & Sinker
Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned angler with plenty of big catches behind you, Åre’s fishing waters are well worth exploring. Not sure where to start? Simply give Fjällsport in Duved a call or stop by — they’re Åredalen’s top supplier of fishing gear and advice. Or book a guided fishing trip to get straight to the action. Don’t forget to buy a fishing permit and follow all recommendations and regulations. Tight lines!

Step Back in Time at Fröå Gruva
Just on the other side of Åreskutan from Åre village, you’ll find Fröå Gruva — today a peaceful retreat with stunning views, but once a busy mining site where iron ore was brought up from deep underground. Explore scenic walking trails starting from here, visit the historic buildings, and experience a glimpse of Åre’s past. On 12–13 July, Fröådagarna offers guided tours and special activities for those eager to dive deeper into the history. Take a break at Bergstugan for a delicious lunch, or enjoy freshly baked flatbread and traditional kolbulle pancakes.

Explore Björnen
Björnen just keeps growing – and not only in winter. Located south of Åre (turn off the E14 at the petrol station in Björnänge), this area offers much more than great accommodation. Go hiking, cycling or try the outdoor gym. Dine at local restaurants and entertain both kids and adults at the trail cycling arena, where you’ll find skill tracks and pump tracks for all levels. Don’t miss out on ice cream and barbecue to keep your energy up, and challenge your fear of heights in the climbing park with its zipline. In short: something for everyone, whenever the mood strikes.
