Fishing Waters in Åre

Perhaps you’d like to devote several days to your dream fishing experience, enjoying peaceful moments alone in your waders, but need to compromise with your time and want to know which fishing waters are both good and nearby.

Most of the local waters accessible from the E14 are flowing rivers, but there are also several lakes where boat fishing offers the best catch. Most waters around Åre are either main flows or tributaries to or from the Indalsälven, which is the lifeline of the entire water system. In general, the lakes are shallow and have a lot of bottom structure, which makes them easier to fish from a boat. You can find a map of these tips in the iFiske app. Don’t forget to buy a fishing permit and keep up to date on the rules and recommendations.

Tips from the Expert

Max Olofsson, owner of the outdoor shop Fjällsport in Duved and an avid angler himself, has the best advice for what the fish bite on in Åre, as well as which waters work best when accessibility and simplicity are your top priorities.

Fishing in Flowing Waters

DUVEDSÄLVEN offers fishing in flowing waters with varying depths and speeds. Here, there is a good chance of catching trout, particularly in the deeper pools and around the rapids.

UNDERSÅKERSÄLVEN provides 8 kilometres of varied fishing in both fast-flowing and calm waters. There is a natural and abundant stock of trout here, with the best fishing found at Brattlandsströmmen.

LÖVSTASTRÖMMEN is renowned for its fast-flowing waters, perfect for sport fishing. It is rich in trout, especially along the rocky river edges where the fish like to lie.

TÅNGBÖLE offers a more tranquil fishing experience in the stream that meanders through the landscape. There is a good population of larger, yet elusive, trout. The best fishing spots are around the natural pools formed in the stream.

HENÅN offers scenic fishing in flowing waters. There is fine trout fishing here, with the best spots located around the deeper sections of the stream.

STORÅN, which flows from Höglekardalen, offers varied fishing with both fast-flowing and calmer sections.

SÄTTERÅN is a calm, meandering stream with an abundance of trout and some char. The best fishing spots are around the natural pools and beneath the overhanging trees where the fish like to hide.

AT KOLÅSEN, there are both lakes and flowing waters, with trout, char, and grayling. The best fishing spots vary depending on the season and water levels, but the rapids and deep lakes are always good choices.

HUSÅN offers a varied fishing experience with both fast-flowing sections and calmer stretches.

Fishing in Lakes

HELGESJÖN is located in a mountain-near environment with clear waters and offers fishing for perch, whitefish, trout, pike, grayling, and burbot. The best fishing is found in the deeper parts of the lake and around the bays and islands that provide shelter for the fish. Boats can be hired via Helgesjöns FVOF.

SANDKLÄPPTJÄRN is a calm and clear tarn with an abundant stock of trout and char. The best fishing spots are along the tarn’s edges and near the inlet and outlet.

ANJAN is a lake with clear water and a rich fish fauna. Here, you can catch grayling, trout, char, and perch. The best fishing spots are in the deeper parts of the lake and around the many islands and headlands jutting out into the water.

Get a Guide

Regardless of whether you’re an experienced fisher, a beginner or anything in between, a guided tour is a great experience. It’s not always easy to find the right spots or know what bait or which gear to use. A guide can help you with all of that, especially as they know every rook and eddy in the local waters.
